Alpha Remote

The Sony version of Alpha Remote with Apple Watch support allows you to use your Apple Watch as a remote for your Sony Alpha camera. With the intuitive design and “user-friendly” controls, you can change your shutter speeds, aperture, ISO settings, as well as trigger your camera, and view battery information directly, all from your Apple Watch! You can see a Live View from your camera directly on the Apple Watch with Touch Focus on supported lenses and cameras. If you are recording video with your camera you can also start and stop recording from your Apple Watch.

Toggle between a variety of grid overlays to help improve your composition. This includes Thirds, Golden Ratio, Golden Spiral and much more, with more to come. The grid overlay will also be visible via live view on your Apple Watch.

You can use the Digital Crown Zoom feature on the Apple Watch to zoom with supported lenses. Your iPhone can also be used as a remote for your camera with the same functionality that you have on the Apple Watch. (Note: Some features may not be supported for all cameras available today. To see if your camera can benefit from this application see the list below. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions concerning compatibility or use of this application.)

Wifi connection between your iPhone and Sony watch can be handled with NFC and QR code scanning to simplify the process.

On most cameras, you can install the Smart Remote Control from PlayMemories, which is available for free. If you need to update that app, you can get here: https://www.playmemoriescameraapps.com/portal/usbdetail.php?eid=is9104-npia09014_00-f00002

If you run into any issues with this app, please contact support first at info@joshyork.com. I am usually quick to respond and can give you an answer to any issue you may be having. Leaving negative feedback before contacting support doesn't help to get the issue resolved in a timely manner. So far, every issue that has been reported via negative feedback could have easily been resolved by contacting our support department.

The Sony a9, a7iii, a7Riii, and RX10 IV don't support the Smart Remote Control feature. If that’s the case, you just connect your camera by setting "Ctrl w/ Smartphone" in the camera's settings. Due to some changes by the manufacturer, some camera models don't support Live View, Touch Focus, and Battery Information.

A long press on your Apple Watch screen toggles through different layouts available. There are currently two layouts available.

For Touch Focus to work, you must have "AF w/ shutter" turned on in your camera’s settings.
